I Remember... San Baronto!

Thinking about... San Baronto!

What amazing village is San Baronto! Lost in the Tuscany country side, just few kilometers from the medieval town of Pistoia, San Baronto is a special place to discover and enjoy all year around. This little village has much to offer to curious and tourists, from history, legends, gastronomy, spectacular views and much more…

I first visited San Baronto in 1998. It was a sunny day and I stand in the front of the Romanic Church, dedicated to the saint that gives name to the village, San Baronto. I watch the sun and I took the walk to appreciate the spectacular view on the Tuscany countryside. I was almost able to see the sea. The green hills rows and grows all around me. I was immersed in the spring and the flavors of Tuscany blow in the air.

When I entered inside the church the obscurity completely embraced me. I was there to visit the old Romanic crypt, dated to the XI century. The entire church was built in the memory of San Baronto, a French monk that used to live in the important monastery of S. Peter in Berry. After a mystic dream he decided to start a pilgrimage toward Roma and when he finally arrived at the Montalbano’s hills, he decided to take a rest here, taken by the beauties of the place. He start living in an old cave and all the shepherds and the local farmer begin to know him as a very wise man. And it is incredible: the remains of the Saint after almost thousand years are still preserved inside the Church. What amazing trip through history and nature, discovering Tunscay and San Baronto.
